Winter 22/23
Dictated as always by the weather, my 20th winter in Chamonix was one of extremes. Encouraging early snow, heavy rain right to the top as a prank Christmas present, some snow came back in January but it didn’t last, characterised by a warm sunny period from mid January right through to March put paid to any hopes of any more good low-altitude riding. It’s the earliest we ever got our town bikes out. In spring we had to get up high, tour up even higher or be prepared to walk down in the mud and grass…which, as it turned out, we were. Capped off by an adventure into the West Couloir, overall the season wasn’t too bad, working in the sunshine and riding when there was any hint of snow.
